The main mission of UFlows is improve the quality of life and safety in urban areas by bringing the predictions of flow and dispersion in urban areas to the next level.
A lot of research has been done at knowledge institutions to improve the quality of numerical models to predict highly turbulent flows in urban areas. The main objective of this research is to improve the knowledge about the flow in urban areas and to capture this gained knowledge in model improvements. A lot of testing against idealized experiments and real life measurements has been done. Though highly advanced, the research is in most cases hard to repeat with other geometries. UFlows has developed a toolkit that is able to deal with urban complexities and still is able to use the state of the art models.
Also knowledge about real situations is actively developed in order to be able to give tailored advice for issues concerning pollution and flow and dispersion in urban areas. An example of this is the study of vegetation (trees) influences in urban areas on the flow and dispersion of pollutants.
